New Community Guidance and Browser Tool Launched to Help Respond to EHRC’s Trans-Exclusionary Draft Code of Practice

Today, we have launched a new community guidance pack and browser extension to support trans people, allies, and organisations responding to the EHRC’s controversial 2025 Draft Code of Practice consultation.

The EHRC’s proposed guidance has been widely criticised for encouraging the exclusion of trans people from public services, sport, and community spaces — and for disregarding the legal protections of the Gender Recognition Act 2004 and the European Convention on Human Rights.

In response, we have created a consultation response guide to help individuals and organisations submit safe, effective responses, without burning out or risking distress from reading the full text of the draft Code.

Alongside this, we are releasing the EHRC Survey Recorder (ESR) — a Firefox extension (Chrome version coming soon) that allows users to securely record the answers they submit. No private data or personal information is collected. The tool will help ensure there is a clear public record of community responses, should the EHRC attempt to misrepresent the consultation outcomes.

Trans people and allies should not have to wade through pages of exclusionary language to defend their right to dignity and equality. This guidance and tool will help protect the community while making sure our voices are heard.

The guidance and ESR extension are now available here: https://tacc.org.uk/2025/06/09/responding-without-burning-out-a-guide-to-the-ehrc-code-of-practice-consultation/

Organisations of all sizes — from local community groups to national charities — are strongly encouraged to respond to the consultation and use the ESR tool to help build an accurate picture of opposition to the draft Code.
